client spotlight | hibrid blog

another column we’re going to be sharing with you is client spotlight! we love seeing how our clients are using our themes, and we thought it’d be fun for you to see too!

tell us about you + your blog

My name is Courtney Shelton and I have a B.F.A. in Interior Design and a Master’s in Graphic Design. I started my brand HIBRID about a year ago. I work by day as a Graphic Designer, while HIBRID is work done on the side/free time.

what do you do outside of the blog?

I love to hand letter. It is one of my biggest passions that I spend a lot of time perfecting and growing. I have a boyfriend and a family of two parents, and 4 younger brothers that I spend lots of time with. I also love working out, seeing my friends, and learning new creative skills. Oh and sleeping…I love sleep

what inspired you to start the blog?

I love design. Sometimes maybe more than the normal creative does I think haha. So I needed a place to share my creative inspirations and my design work. I wasn’t getting to do this at my daily job and I could tell this was affecting me. So I started HIBRID, and got the nerve to create my own blog!

what made you choose a blogzilla studio theme?

I searched and searched for at least a month I think to make sure I had found the right company/designer to give my time and money to. I loved every single one of Blogzilla’s designs. It was very hard to choose one. I loved how clean and simple they were, but still took in to account the small details and composition qualities that I was looking for so that once my work was posted on the blog, it would shine correctly.

what do you like best about the look of your blog now?

I love how the blog is me and reflects who I am and what I love. It is simple, straight forward, and easy to navigate through making it easy and visually pleasing to the reader.

have any advice for people starting up blogs of their own?

Yes…you should do it! I had a few nervous reservations about starting mine, but I absolutely love it and do not regret it one bit. It has been such a great thing and tool for me to have. I have gotten so many opportunities from starting and having the blog, so I definitely recommend to just take the first jump and dive in!

if you could have dinner with any guests of your choice, who would they be and what would you eat?

Well Chelsea Handler is hilarious, so I think I’d pick her, and we could maybe dine on apps and drinks!

would you recommend blogzilla studio? if so, why?

YES! I definitely would recommend Blogzilla Studio! These ladies are awesome, super talented, knowledgeable, and helpful…even after you have started the blog!

blogger vs wordpress

blogger vs wordpress | blogzilla

because we get asked all the time why we make our themes for wordpress vs blogger, we thought it’d be helpful to share why we love there are obviously pros for some people to using blogger, so we will try our best not to be biased.

you have to buy your domain you can use your own domain
you need a hosting plan (with unlimited storage) you get 1GB of storage
thousands of plugins available unable to use plugins
full control over customization limited capabilities
you own your site blogger owns it, you’re essentially renting
you have complete control in monetizing less control with banner ads + affiliate links
you’re responsible for backing up + security  your blog is safe and secure
wordpress isn’t going anywhere  blogger could go away any day

now — if you’re just starting out and you don’t care about having a ton of control or rights over your blog, then blogger might be right for you. it definitely is more user friendly when it comes to capabilities of coding vs drag + drop. but wordpress has a lot more support when it comes to technical issues (there is a huge a community full of forums most likely answering every problem you have) vs blogger, which has a much less helpful support system.

google has already nixed google reader and feedburner seems to be on its way out. blogger hasn’t been updated in a long time, which doesn’t show a promising future for the platform, which is … well, probably a little scary for blogger users.

hope that we were able to objectively compare the two for you if you were swaying towards choosing or switching.

a brand new blogzilla

January 10, 2015

if you’re new to blogzilla studio — welcome! if you’re an oldie, welcome! you may have noticed we’ve made some big changes to our site. most importantly, we’ll now be selling our themes directly on our site rather than just on etsy. we hope this minimizes a lot of back and forth and we can focus more on growing (which means more themes and more fun stuff!)

you may also have noticed that we’re going to be introducing wedding themes to blogzilla! we’ve seen a lot of wedding templates. and sadly, we haven’t seen a lot that are modern and clean and not covered in pink. so we wanted to create themes for the couples that are looking for beautifully uncluttered options. and themes that grooms will hopefully like too.

we’re also going to be blogging! we’ll be sharing blog, freelance and design tips as well as inspiration and we’ll be featuring some of our favorite themes in action and the bloggers behind them.

we hope you’re as excited about our makeover as we are — it was a LOT of work, but we’re so happy about where our little company is heading.
